Bytware Expands Messaging Power with GUI

Tuesday, August 7th, 2001

GRASS VALLEY, California—Bytware, Inc. (www.bytware.com) adds a graphical client interface to (MessengerPlus) to give end users a single communications tool for sending messages to pagers, e-mail and other workstations from WIN95/98/NT.Bytware’s MessengerPlus, is a fully integrated iSeries 400 and AS/400 messages monitoring, management and notification solution designed to automatically detect software/hardware events requiring immediate attention. The product has always offered a user paging/dispatching feature, but the addition of this graphical interface brings “easy-to-use messaging to the fingertips of all users, especially those not use 5250 emulation,” says Christine Grant, Marketing Director for Bytware, Inc. During the client installation, administrators can specify security settings so users do not have to sign on to the AS/400 to send messages.

With MessengerPlus, users can send messages to all pager types, including 2-way pagers which enable the recipient to reply back from the pager, as well as e-mail, PCS Digital cellular phones, and workstations. The graphical client interface is very easy to use. Users can select pagers or e-mail addresses by clicking on the pager or e-mail names, typing their message and clicking Send. Messages are then submitted to MessengerPlus and sent via the iSeries 400 or AS/400, “centralizing communications and utilizing a stable platform for ensuring the messages are delivered,” she said. Audit and security features allow users to only check the status of their own messages.

MessengerPlus also introduces what Bytware calls “Event Management Central ” or the centralized configuration and monitoring of system events, messages and actions. Such centralization provides systems managers with greater control over message management and actions taken.

The graphical client interface is included with MessengerPlus at no extra charge and requires TCP/IP or Client Access connectivity. “This is the beginning of many clients to come. Future development plans include an Event Management Central graphical interface, ” she says.

Bytware, Inc.’s MessengerPlus is widely used in industries such as finance/banking, EMS/911, hospitality/gaming, medical/healthcare, transportation/trucking, manufacturing/retail, and telecommunications. The company’s focus on experience, excellence and quality assurance are its hallmarks and are echoed throughout its products and customer loyalty.

Bytware Announces 2-Way e-mail Support

Sunday, February 25th, 2001

Bytware, Inc. (www.bytware.com) announce 2-way e-mail from the IBM iSeries 400 and AS/400. Using Bytware’s MessengerPlus, users are now able to reply to iSeries 400, AS/400 and user messages directly from any Internet-based e-mail client. This provides the following benefits:

Allows administrators to answer system and application messages from any of the fast-growing array of wireless Internet devices, such as Palm Pilots, cellular phones and pagers.
Allows non-iSeries 400 and non-AS/400 users to answer system and application messages without utilizing a green screen. Desktop e-mail clients can be used such as Eudora, Netscape, Outlook, Notes, etc.

Allows iSeries 400 and AS/400 applications to communicate with mobile workers, such as asking for a price quote and allowing the mobile worker to respond to the application using e-mail. The application can simply send a message to the user’s message queue and MessengerPlus will manage the routing of the message to the user’s e-mail device automatically. The technology insulates the customer’s applications from the intricacies of sending and receiving Internet e-mail.

Example
Bob is at home surfing the Internet. An application on his unattended iSeries 400 generates an inquiry message. Normally, the message would wait until the next morning along with many unhappy users. With MessengerPlus installed, Bob is notified by the familiar “You’ve got mail!” sound coming from his PC. Bob clicks on the flashing envelope and notices the message is from MessengerPlus. Bob hits reply, types his response, and clicks Send. The next morning everything is running smoothly and the user’s never even knew there was a problem.

Technical
MessengerPlus 5.53 now allows the administrator to specify a return address for E-mail pager messages. In addition, you can now specify a POP3 mailbox where MessengerPlus will check for replies at recurring intervals. The POP3 mailbox can be an account on the corporate mail server, or any free Internet POP3 account. When MessengerPlus reads a message from the POP3 mailbox, it is matched with the message that was sent to the user, extracts the reply and answers the message. In most cases a response time of 2 to 3 minutes can be achieved. For more information contact Bytware, Inc. at 775.851.2900 or www.bytware.com.
