The AMA recognized Bytware’s marketing and creative efforts at the May 15 Reno-Tahoe AMA ACE Awards Gala with four awards. Last year’s I.T. Truths print campaign—seen in IBM Systems Magazine, System iNEWS, and COMMOM.CONNECT—received the top-level ACE award for Print Advertising Campaigns, while i5virus took top honors for Viral or Guerilla Marketing Campaigns and also won the Award of Excellence in the Web Marketing Campaign and Comprehensive Marketing Campaign categories.

This is the third consecutive year that Bytware has received multiple honors from the American Marketing Association, earning a total of 11 awards during that span.

About the ACE Awards
Each year the American Marketing Association recognizes outstanding work with the ACE Awards. Unlike many other competitions, the ACE Awards not only take into account creativity and design execution but also focus on the effectiveness and measurable results of a campaign.

About the American Marketing Association
A non-profit organization and over 38,000 members internationally, the American Marketing Association is the source that marketers turn to every day, online, in print and in person. Since 1982, the Reno-Tahoe AMA’s mission has been to serve our members and be the marketing source by providing networking, knowledge and career development. AMA International Headquarters has bestowed three awards on the Reno-Tahoe chapter this term, including “Turn-Around Chapter of the Year”, “Fastest Growing Chapter,” and they also awarded the chapter a “Special Merit in Communications.” For more information visit www.renotahoeama.com

Reno, NV (April 21, 2008)—The 12th Annual Webby Awards, today nominated Bytware’s i5virus for the Best Sound Design of 2008. i5virus is the popular System i espionage YouTube video and game campaign that launched at Columbus COMMON in October of last year.

Winners will be announced on May 6, 2008 and honored at a star-studded ceremony in New York City on June 9th. Hailed as the “Oscars of the Internet” by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, interactive advertising, online film and video, and mobile Websites. The Webby Awards is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, R/GA’s Chief Bob Greenberg, “Simpson’s” creator Matt Groening, Arianna Huffington, and Harvey Weinstein.

“The Webby Awards honors the outstanding Websites that are setting the standards for the Internet,” said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. “i5virus’s Webby Award nomination is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators.”

“We have been overwhelmed by the positive response to our i5virus campaign that we have received from the System i user community and media,” said Christopher Jones, Marketing Director for Bytware. “We set out to do something fun, something different, and something that would at the same time raise awareness about issues that we felt were very important to System i users. We would like to thank everyone in the community for their great response to and support of i5virus.”

From now through May 1st, online fans around the world can cast their own votes for i5virus in The Webby People’s Voice Awards presented by Nokia at http://pv.webbyawards.com.

The 12th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states.

Founded in 1996, The Webby Awards are known worldwide for its famous five-word speech limit. Past headline-grabbing speechmakers include Al Gore (“Please don’t recount this vote”), Beastie Boys (“Can anyone fix my computer?”), and Prince (“Everything you think is true.”)

About i5virus
i5virus was an educational campaign designed to raise awareness of issues pertaining to the use of PHP technology on IBM System i servers. Consisting of two parts — a launch video distributed via YouTube and a game site — i5virus was officially launched at the autumn IBM COMMON User Conference in October 2007.

i5virus put players on the trail of a Chinese cybercrime syndicate that attacked a U.S. financial institution and facilitated massive identity theft by exploiting PHP on System i. Starting with the YouTube video (a Webby Nominee for Best Sound Design) was shot on location in Tokyo and takes players along on the chase for evidence, which leads them to the game site. Players then work their way through the case using a System i-style green screen computer interface and interacting with the investigator’s desktop, learning more about PHP security along the way.
