Bytware, Inc., industry leading provider of award-winning monitoring and security solutions, is pleased to announce the expansion of the StandGuard Anti-Virus family of products with the addition of a new module for scanning of IBM Lotus Domino mail and databases residing on IBM Power Systems. An optional add-on for StandGuard Anti-Virus for i5/OS (now IBM i), StandGuard Anti-Virus for Domino is powered by McAfee and includes the following features:

Mail scanning. The application dynamically scanning e-mail messages for viruses and other types of malicious code, protecting Domino mail users from receiving infected and potentially harmful e-mail messages.

Database scanning. The application provides on-demand scanning of Domino databases, detecting viruses andmalicious code embedded within document attachments and OLE objects.

Quarantine. The application moves infected attachments to a quarantine database, where an administrator can furtherinvestigate their origin and integrity by submitting a sample to McAfee’s Avert threat center.

Real time alerts. Alerts can be configured for when various events occur, such as when infected messages anddocuments are detected, and when automatic activities occur. These alerts administrators to be continually aware of thehealth and status of the system.

Automatic updating. The antivirus databases are automatically updated daily from McAfee’s Internet servers, or fromspecified computers on the local network.

Scheduling. The administrator can schedule automatic database scanning and automatic updating to occur at userconfigurable time periods, such as nights and weekends when activity is low.

Logging. All product activities are logged to a central database, including details of infected objects detected duringscans, and when automatic activities occur.

Ease of management. Remote Domino servers can be configured and managed from a central administration server, reducing the time and effort normally required to mange remote servers. The log database is presented as aconsolidated view of all events occurring across multiple servers. In addition to the traditional Notes user interface, the product also provides a web browser interface to view and manage all activities across multiple remote servers.

The Domino module requires StandGuard Anti-Virus for System i, Bytware’s native System i virus detection solution designedto scan IFS directories for viruses and perform advanced cleaning and notification procedures. StandGuard Anti-Virus foriSeries (powered by McAfee) provides the following:

• Native OS/400 McAfee scanning engine•Scans within compressed, packed and OLE files.
• Decompresses and scans files compressed in packages such as PKZip, .LHA, and .ARJ, .CHM, etc.
• Detects and cleans macro and script viruses.•Detects and cleans encrypted and polymorphic viruses.
• Uses advanced heuristic analysis to detect new/unknown and generic viruses
• Detects and removes “Trojan horses”, worms, and many other types of malicious software (malware).
• Green screen and iSeries Navigator plugins provided.
• Automatic download of daily virus definitions directly from McAfee’s servers or the local network
• Automatic download of software updates and fixes directly from Bytware’s servers or the local network
• Built-in scheduling features for scanning and updating
• Extensive logging capabilities

StandGuard Anti-Virus Domino is part of the StandGuard Security Suite offered by Bytware, Inc., including StandGuard Anti-Virus for System i, StandGuard Anti-Virus for Linux, StandGuard Anti-Virus for AIX, StandGuard Network Security, and StandGuard Recycle Bin.

RENO, Nevada—Bytware, Inc. and IBM signed an agreement this week allowing Bytware’s StandGuard Anti-Virus for iSeries to be shipped with all distributions of IBM’s eServer iSeries new operating system, i5/OS V5R3 (OS/400 Version 5 Release 3). This agreement is the result of IBM and Bytware’s combined efforts to fill the growing demand for virus protection of PC files stored on iSeries servers and strengthens the iSeries servers’ legacy of being one of the safest platforms available today.

Beginning with V5R3, IBM has enabled the operating system to support virus scanning, including On-Access scanning. The enablement itself does not scan, detect or clean viruses, but instead provides the necessary enhancements to allow StandGuard Anti-Virus to scan files upon open and close (On-Access).

To help ensure iSeries customers realize the maximum security potential in a networked environment, Bytware redesigned StandGuard Anti-Virus to exploit the new V5R3 enablement. The result is a seamless integration of StandGuard Anti-Virus with i5/OS V5R3. By shipping StandGuard Anti-Virus with all V5R3 systems and upgrades, customers will have the ability to immediately test the new function on their new operating system.

StandGuard Anti-Virus for iSeries V5R3 will begin shipping with all iSeries V5R3 servers, and upgrades to V5R3, and will be available as a try-and-buy offering. Customers can request full-featured trial activation by contacting Bytware directly at http://www.bytware.com/enableav.html or calling 775.851.2900. Bytware will work directly with customers, and, to ensure timely support, Bytware has expanded its US-based operations to include 18 new Partners in 10 time zones worldwide.

Bytware, Inc., an industry innovator and leader since 1986, offers award winning security, user and system monitoring, and notification solutions for the IBM iSeries server. For more information on the StandGuard Security Suite, including StandGuard Anti-Virus for V5R3, please visit the main security page or call 775.851.2900.

A very informative ComputerWorld story by Danny Lieberman of Open Solutions examines the problem of “extrusion” — the unauthorized transfer of corporate assets by trusted insiders. Extrusion is an issue that Bytware has been addressing since the birth of StandGuard.

The belief that firewalls are all the protection an organization needs to secure data is a dangerous one. A large number of thefts and malicious destruction of data occur from inside the company. Firewalls do nothing to protect against this threat.

RENO, Nevada—Bytware, Inc. formally announces StandGuard, the newest addition to its product line, and a new breed of iSeries Security with an innovative approach to ‘phasing-in’ security policies designed to protect your system and data from accidental or intentional damage or theft. Unique in its design, StandGuard allows you to implement your security policies in an existing operating environment, without disrupting your normal network-based business transactions and activities. To achieve this, StandGuard promotes a phased approach to implementation, beginning with an open trust-based policy, and progressively strengthening security by securing or turning up network services on a service-by-service basis.

It’s commonly known that the iSeries server has unparalleled security protection if you are using application and/or menu-based security when the server is accessed from 5250 terminals. However, network-accessible tools such as FTP and ODBC bypass your application and menu-based security systems unless you have fully implemented the built-in object level security features of OS/400. When a PC user utilizes their 5250 user ID and password in an application such as Microsoft Excel, and FTP that is built-in to every Windows-based PC, they will have unlimited access to your company’s data.

StandGuard allows you to secure resources – objects (files, databases and programs, for example), network services (FTP, ODBC, DDM and Telnet) and CL command, on your iSeries that are being accessed by end users running client applications on your network such as common desktop products like Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, IBM Client Access, and others. StandGuard controls access to (and functionality in) network services and system commands to protect your system and data from accidental or intentional damage or theft.
